Are You Ready For Wealth Transfer?
Jul 15, 2016ARE YOU READY FOR WEALTH TRANSFER?
Ecclesiastes 2:26 “To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God.”
A friend was telling me this cardiologist who was at the age of retirement was not able to do so because he couldn’t afford it. Today many couples have a six figure income or have a very successful business and they never get wealthy. No matter how much money they make, they find a way to blow it.
Why does this happen?
Why not save and invest?
There is a good reason for this. There mindset is a symptom of a bigger problem.
There is a hidden barrier, a lie holding them back from wealth.
Limiting beliefs hold people back.
Here are a few examples of beliefs that rubbed off on us
- I can’t make money doing what I love “starving artist” syndrome
- I am always in debt. I am broke. There is never enough money
- Money is bad, the root of all evil, I shouldn’t want more
- You have to work hard to get what you want (no pain, no gain)
- Who am I to be successful?
- I don’t have the money luck/looks/education
- I am not better than anyone else
- Having friends that don’t aspire to be much
So decisions about the world you made as a child continue to influence your decisions and behaviors as an adult.
An elephant tied to a stake in the middle of the tent he is large and able to go free. Why don’t they? Because when small the trainer tied him there. At that age he couldn’t pull the stake out no matter how hard he tried and he gave up. Never tried again. Years later full grown he is still tied there.
Beliefs like that so used to thinking them that we take them for granted as being true even if they are not or are not anymore.
No matter how well a person does financially there is a voice that tells them I don’t deserve success.
So his subconscious mind finds ways to sabotage success. And return to a level of ‘wealth’ that they are comfortable with.
These limiting beliefs are part of a set of thought patterns we all have running through our minds.
Most people suffer from a poverty mindset. These patterns are programmed into your brain from a young age. You pick them up from your environment, your peers and what you hear at home.
Luke 19:11-26 Here is a good example showing that God want us to be wise with our money. In verse 13 it is written: “So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back’” Later in verse 15 it says “Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.” In verse 16 “The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned 10 more.’ 17 Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’” The second said he earned 5 more. His master told him he would take charge of 5 cities.
Luke 19:20-21 Here we see a man that doesn’t really know God as a Father. He doesn’t have a close relationship with his master. He doesn’t really really know God’s love for him. He was afraid of him and saw him as a hard man. And then in verse 26 “The master said: “I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away.”
Let’s say you would give a million dollars to 100 individuals. And 5 years later you would check what they did with their money.
How many people do you think would have more than what they started with? I think there might be one or two person out of 100 who would have made even more in that time.
What about the other 99?
It is sad to say but everyone else would blow it all until they got back to where they started. Don’t believe me? Look at how many lottery winners are now broke.
If your mind is not ready for this wealth, you won’t be able to hold on to it for long. It all comes down to the belief system you have about money.
It is possible to remove that negative pattern.
It’s not your fault that you think this way. You couldn’t control what you learned.
But you CAN control your ability to change and develop positive patterns.
If you want to move from a poverty mindset to a wealth mindset.
Take a piece of paper and split it in 4 columns.
1st column, write down a significant financial event in your life.
Did you get a raise at your job, or receive an inheritance or a gift?
2nd column, write down what happened with this newfound fortune.
Did you start spending more as a result of your increased income?
Did you blow the profits of a big sale on things you didn’t need?
Did you manage to save any money from the gift you’ve gotten in your life?
3rd column, I want you to write down why you think that result happened. For instance: If you started spending more money after you got a big raise, then explain why you thought this happened.
Maybe you thought that this increase in income meant you need to spend more.
Maybe you thought now that you had all this extra money you should spend now because it might not be there forever.
Maybe deep down inside you don’t think you deserve to earn this much.
You might have a number of theories - and some of them may be completely irrational. That’s OK! Oftentimes we are irrational (unreasonable, ridiculous) when dealing with money.
4th column, I want you to write down a new solution. If you could go back in time and make different choices. What would you do?
Would you save 10% of that money for the future?
Would you invest it in your education?
Would you use it to pay off some of your debts?
Would you invest for example in real estate, or in a business that would generate income and make your money work for you? (It would create more income and you can give more in the affairs of the kingdom of God.)
By going through the process you create new ways of thinking about how to use money as a tool to get what you want in life. You can’t change the past. But you can train your brain to stop and think about irrational (unreasonable, ridiculous) decisions before you make them. You can see that you are in control of your money and your future.
You’ll start to think like a wealthy person. You will realize that you are smarter than you give yourself credit for. And you’ll realize you can have a better life by making better financial choices for your future.
Your thoughts become your actions. Your actions become your behaviors. Your behaviors become your habits. And when you develop strong habits, you can overcome even the worst poverty mindset.
It all start with a firm decision to change your financial future.
Deuteronomy 8:18 “But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth”
Proverbs 13:22 “A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.”
